There's something truly magical about canola season in the Western Cape. For just a few short weeks each year, the countryside transforms into a breathtaking sea of golden-yellow blooms, creating one of the most sought-after backdrops for outdoor photography. Because this spectacular display only happens once a year, canola field sessions are incredibly popular and offer a unique opportunity to capture timeless photographs surrounded by nature's vibrant colours.

Some of the most beautiful canola fields can be found in the Durbanville Wine Valley, around Altydgedacht, Bloemendal, and throughout the rolling countryside surrounding Philadelphia. As the season progresses, you'll also find stunning fields scattered across various farming regions in the Cape, each offering its own unique landscape and perspective.

It's important to remember that the vast majority of these fields are located on privately owned farms. Permission must always be obtained before entering any property, and respecting the farmers, their land, and their crops is something I take very seriously. When planning a canola photoshoot, I'll always ensure we use an approved location where access has been granted, allowing us to enjoy these incredible landscapes responsibly.
