There are certain photoshoots that hold a special place in my heart, and this recent session with Kayla, her partner, and their beloved Chow, Lulu, was one of them. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Kayla and Lulu when she was a sprightly, younger pup. To be invited back to capture this next chapter of their journey together was an absolute honour.

As a Cape Town pet photographer, I know how fleeting time can feel when it comes to our beloved animals. They grow older far too quickly, and every wag of the tail, every gentle nuzzle, and every wise gaze deserves to be cherished. This session was a heartfelt celebration of Lulu, who has aged gracefully and remains the heart of their little family.
We started our shoot in a serene forest, where dappled sunlight filtered through the trees, casting a soft glow on Lulu’s golden coat. She padded along beside Kayla and her partner, pausing now and then to take in the fresh air, a quiet observer of the love and laughter shared between them. As we moved through the wooded paths, it was clear that Lulu still held the same curiosity and gentle spirit that had been so present in our first shoot together.
From the forest, we made our way to the dam, where the golden hour light shimmered beautifully across the water. It was the kind of light that every photographer dreams of—soft, warm, and ethereal. Lulu’s coat practically glowed, blending seamlessly with the golden reflections on the surface of the dam. It was a breath-taking sight, and I couldn’t help but feel that the universe had gifted us the perfect moment to capture her in all her golden glory.
While Lulu rested nearby, Kayla and her partner took a few intimate shots on the bridge overlooking the dam. They laughed, embraced, and even danced a little, with Lulu watching contently from the side. It was a quiet, intimate celebration of the life they had built together—one that Lulu had been a part of every step of the way.

Photographing pets, especially those in their senior years, is a poignant reminder of how important it is to document the love we share with them. These images will become cherished keepsakes, a way to hold onto the warmth and presence of a beloved companion long after they’ve left our side. Lulu’s journey may have changed over the years, but her place in Kayla and her partner’s hearts remains unwavering.
As a Cape Town family photographer, I am reminded time and time again of how valuable these moments are. If you’ve ever considered a photoshoot for your furry friend, now is always the best time. Because one day, these images will be more than just photographs—they will be memories, reminders of unconditional love, and timeless treasures.
To Kayla, her partner, and, of course, dear Lulu—thank you for allowing me to capture your beautiful bond once again.
