Cape Town in summer is iconic—sun-soaked beaches, vibrant energy, and that unmistakable ocean breeze. But if you’ve ever done a beach shoot during those warmer months, you’ll know… the wind can have its own plans.
Autumn, however, is a completely different story.

As the seasons shift in Cape Town, something magical happens along the coastline—especially in places like Camps Bay. The air softens, the light turns golden and gentle, and the wind that so often rushes through summer sessions seems to settle into a calm, almost peaceful stillness.
This is exactly why autumn is one of the most underrated—and honestly, one of the most perfect—times for a beach photoshoot.
The beaches become calmer, quieter, and far more forgiving. Hair stays in place, dresses flow instead of fighting against the breeze, and you can truly be present in the moment without constantly adjusting or bracing yourself against the elements. There’s a sense of ease that naturally settles in, allowing for a more relaxed and organic experience.
It opens up a completely different kind of beach session—one that feels intimate, natural, and beautifully understated. Think soft waves rolling in, muted skies that wrap everything in warmth, and those quiet, in-between moments that are so often lost in the buzz of peak season.
Even the beaches themselves feel transformed this time of year. With fewer crowds and more open space, there’s a sense of privacy and calm that’s hard to come by in summer. It creates room—not just physically, but emotionally—for you to let your guard down, settle into the moment, and simply enjoy the experience without distraction.
And this shoot with Rachelle was the perfect example of all of that.
From the moment we arrived at Camps Bay Beach, everything just worked. The light was soft and golden, wrapping around her in the most flattering way. The ocean was calm, gently meeting the shore without overpowering the scene. And the wind? Practically non-existent—a rare and welcome gift in Cape Town.

Rachelle brought such a beautiful, effortless energy to the shoot. There was a quiet confidence in the way she moved, allowing each moment to unfold naturally. Whether she was sitting among the rocks with the ocean lapping gently beside her or letting the soft autumn light catch the warm tones in her hair, every frame felt authentic and unforced.
It’s shoots like these that remind me why I love what I do so much. When the location, the light, and the person all come together so seamlessly, it creates something truly special—something you can feel just by looking at the images.
Cape Town really showed off for us that day. The kind of golden, dreamy conditions that photographers hope for but can’t always plan. And paired with the calmness that autumn brings, it gave us the perfect setting to create something timeless and beautifully simple.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a beach shoot, this is your sign—autumn might just be the best-kept secret of the season.
