When a Brand Becomes Part of the Story: A Harry Potter-Themed Pug Birthday Shoot for LEASH & TREAT SA

There are some branding shoots where the brief is simple: showcase a product, photograph the details, and create beautiful images that a business can use across its social media and website.
And then there are branding shoots where the story itself becomes the product.
This Harry Potter-themed birthday shoot for LEASH & TREAT SA was definitely the latter.
When I started planning a special 9th birthday shoot for my two pugs, I knew I wanted to create something completely different. I wanted a shoot that felt magical, personal and full of little details — but I also wanted to showcase just how much creativity and craftsmanship goes into what LEASH & TREAT SA creates.
The result was a two-part Harry Potter-inspired photoshoot filled with custom cloaks, personalised decorations, banners, cake toppers, Hogwarts-inspired details, balloons, letters and plenty of pug personality.
And honestly? It turned into the perfect example of how a branding photoshoot can tell the story of a small business far better than a simple product photograph ever could.

The Brief: Turning a Birthday Into a Magical Brand Experience
For my pugs' 9th birthday, I wanted to create a Harry Potter-themed celebration.
But rather than simply buying a few themed decorations and putting them together, I wanted to see what LEASH & TREAT SA could create with the concept.
The answer was everything.
The incredible thing about this setup was that it wasn't just one or two customised items. Claudia from LEASH & TREAT SA took the theme and carried it through the entire party setup.
There were custom designs, personalised details, themed decorations and, of course, the absolute stars of the show: the custom wizard cloaks.
This is where the shoot became so much more than a birthday photoshoot.
It became a visual demonstration of what the brand can do.
Part 1: The Outdoor Hogwarts Celebration
For Part 1, we took the party outside and created a magical little Hogwarts-inspired setting surrounded by lush greenery.
The garden was the perfect backdrop. The vines and foliage already created that slightly mysterious, enchanted feeling, and then we layered the LEASH & TREAT SA decorations throughout the scene.
The first thing that immediately catches your eye is the incredible custom birthday banner.
It wasn't a generic decoration. It was designed specifically around the birthday theme, incorporating the Harry Potter aesthetic, house colours and the pugs themselves.
Then there were the smaller decorative pieces scattered throughout the setup — Hogwarts-inspired icons, house details, personalised elements and little nods to the wizarding world.
This is exactly the kind of detail that makes a branding shoot valuable.
Instead of photographing one product against a plain background, we're showing potential customers what that product can look like when it becomes part of an entire experience.
And then came the cloaks...
Let's talk about the custom cloaks because WOW.
Each pug had their own beautifully made wizard cloak, complete with different house-inspired colours and details.
They weren't simply costumes thrown over them for a photograph. They were carefully designed pieces that fitted into the entire theme.
The fabric, colours, trims, hoods and crests all contributed to the story.
And photographing them on the pugs allowed us to show something particularly important about LEASH & TREAT SA:
These products are made to be part of your memories.
Whether it's a birthday, a special celebration, a themed event or simply because you want your dog to look ridiculously adorable, the product becomes part of the occasion.

The Little Details That Made the Difference
One of my favourite things about this entire setup was discovering all the little details.
There were Hogwarts letters, themed cut-outs, house-inspired designs, balloons and decorations woven throughout the scene.
There were even tiny personalised elements created specifically around the pugs.
And then there were the cake toppers.
The birthday cake became another opportunity for the brand to tell the story.
Instead of simply having a cake sitting on a table, the cake was decorated with a whole collection of Harry Potter-inspired details — creating a miniature magical scene in itself.
The cake toppers included everything from Hogwarts-inspired imagery to house details and personalised pug elements.
It was almost like looking at a tiny scrapbook of the entire birthday theme.
That attention to detail is what made the images so much fun to photograph.
Part 2: Bringing Hogwarts Home
For Part 2, we moved the shoot indoors and created a completely different atmosphere.
Instead of the garden setting, we transformed the bedroom into a cosy little Hogwarts-inspired space.
The change in location gave us the opportunity to showcase another side of the LEASH & TREAT SA setup.
The decorations suddenly felt more intimate.
The banners stretched across the room, Hogwarts-inspired details filled the background and the custom cloaks became even more prominent against the cosy bedding.
We also incorporated additional magical elements into the photographs, including floating letters, potion-inspired details and a Slytherin-inspired backdrop.
The result was much more than a series of photographs of two pugs wearing cloaks.
It looked like they had their own little wizarding bedroom.
And that is exactly what I wanted from this shoot.

Why This Is More Than Just a Pet Photoshoot
From a photography perspective, this shoot is a perfect example of what branding photography can achieve for a small business.
A traditional product photograph might show you a dog cloak.
This shoot shows you the experience of owning one.
It shows the cloak being worn.
It shows how it photographs.
It shows how it works alongside themed decorations.
It shows the level of customisation possible.
It shows the attention to detail.
And most importantly, it shows the emotion behind the product.
Someone looking at these photographs doesn't just see a cloak.
They can imagine their own dog wearing one at a birthday party.
They can imagine a themed photoshoot.
They can imagine a special celebration.
They can imagine creating their own memories.
That is the difference between simply photographing a product and creating brand storytelling.
Creating Content That a Brand Can Actually Use
One of the biggest advantages of a branding shoot like this is the sheer amount of content that can be created from one carefully planned concept.
From the same shoot, LEASH & TREAT SA can use the photographs for:
Instagram and Facebook posts
Product showcases
Reels and behind-the-scenes content
Website imagery
Custom order promotions
Birthday and celebration marketing
Themed product inspiration
Stories and social media campaigns
Portfolio examples
Customer inspiration
And because we photographed the details as well as the finished setup, there are images that can focus specifically on the craftsmanship.
Close-up photographs can highlight the cloaks.
Wider photographs can showcase the entire party setup.
Portraits show the products in use.
Detail shots can focus on the decorations.
And the photographs of the pugs themselves bring the personality and emotion into the brand.
This is why I love creating story-driven branding photography.
You aren't just walking away with ten photographs of one product.
You're creating an entire visual library for your business.
The Power of Personalisation
What I particularly loved about working with LEASH & TREAT SA on this project was how personalised everything felt.
The party wasn't designed for a generic customer.
It was designed around my pugs, their personalities and their 9th birthday.
Their names appeared throughout the decorations.
Their cloaks were created specifically for them.
The cake toppers reflected the theme.
The banners tied everything together.
Even the smallest elements had been considered.
That level of personalisation is what made the shoot feel so special — and it is also what makes a strong brand memorable.
Customers don't just want products.
They want something that feels like theirs.
A Birthday, a Brand and a Little Bit of Magic
At the end of the day, this started as a birthday photoshoot for two very spoiled nine-year-old pugs.
But it became something much bigger.
It became a celebration of creativity, customisation and the incredible work that goes into creating something from scratch.
LEASH & TREAT SA took a simple idea — "I want a Harry Potter-themed birthday for my pugs" — and turned it into an entire magical world.
From the custom cloaks to the banners.
From the cake toppers to the Hogwarts letters.
From the balloons to the personalised decorations.
From the tiny design details to the overall styling.
Every single element contributed to the story.
And that is exactly what I wanted these photographs to capture.
Because great branding photography isn't just about showing people what you sell.
It's about showing them what is possible.
And in this case, what was possible was two nine-year-old pugs having their very own Hogwarts birthday celebration. 🪄🐾
A huge thank you to LEASH & TREAT SA and Claudia for taking my slightly crazy Harry Potter pug birthday vision and bringing it to life so beautifully.
The cloaks were incredible.
The decorations were incredible.
The attention to detail was incredible.
And the final photographs are something I will treasure for years.
Because sometimes the best branding stories are the ones that are completely, wonderfully personal.
